Mycroft is trying to keep as still as possible, but he can\u2019t quite hide that he\u2019s shaking ever so slightly.\u00a0<i>\u201cI can\u2019t fix- I can\u2019t get you out of this, Sherlock,\u201d <\/i>he says, voice harsh and sharp; God, he\u2019s so <b><i>angry<\/i><\/b>, what is the point of him if he can\u2019t-<\/p>\n<p>But, Sherlock just looks at him, so calm.<i>\u00a0\u201cI wasn\u2019t expecting you to.\u201d<\/i><\/p>\n<p>And, Mycroft actually offers him a cigarette, but Sherlock shakes his head. They stay silent for a few moments. Then, Mycroft dares to say it:\u00a0<i>\u201cYou\u2019re in love with him.\u201d <\/i>He doesn\u2019t phrase it as a question because some part of him has always <i>known<\/i>, really. He\u2019s just gently testing the waters with those words, wanting to give Sherlock the option to talk about it, if he needs to. He owes him that, at least.<\/p>\n<p>Sherlock doesn\u2019t respond. Instead, he turns and gives a small, sad smile, the sheer honesty of it painful to Mycroft.<\/p>\n<p><i>\u201cSix months?\u201d\u00a0<\/i>Sherlock asks, and Mycroft simply nods because he doesn\u2019t trust himself to speak.<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s a little pause. Then, Sherlock reaches into his coat pocket and throws something into the air. Instinctively, Mycroft catches it- a lifetime of childhood reflexes. It\u2019s the spare keys to Mycroft\u2019s house.<\/p>\n<p>Mycroft exhales, then carefully presses the keys into Sherlock\u2019s palm.<i>\u00a0\u201cFor when you come back,\u201d<\/i> he tells him.
