{"id":142337,"date":"2015-08-06T13:08:37","date_gmt":"2015-08-06T13:08:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.merindab.com\/private\/2015\/08\/06\/how-to-write-a-kiss\/"},"modified":"2015-08-06T13:08:37","modified_gmt":"2015-08-06T13:08:37","slug":"how-to-write-a-kiss","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.merindab.com\/private\/2015\/08\/06\/how-to-write-a-kiss\/","title":{"rendered":"How to write a kiss"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"tumblr_blog\" href=\"http:\/\/feowyn.tumblr.com\/post\/125194364351\" target=\"_blank\">feowyn<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><a class=\"tumblr_blog\" href=\"http:\/\/caseywolfe07.tumblr.com\/post\/125193719225\" target=\"_blank\">caseywolfe07<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><a class=\"tumblr_blog\" href=\"http:\/\/snazzycookies.tumblr.com\/post\/17540318658\" target=\"_blank\">snazzycookies<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Rebloggable version, as requested by davrosbro. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Oooh!\u00a0 Yes!\u00a0 I love kisses.\u00a0 Kisses are where it all starts ;).<\/p>\n<p>Okay, first, remember that kiss is much, <i>much<\/i> more than just lips.\u00a0 It is lips, but also tongues, teeth, eyes, faces, hands, noses, bodies, heartbeats,\u00a0 breath, voice- and <i>most<\/i> importantly, a kiss is <i>emotions<\/i>.\u00a0 A kiss without emotion is just wet mushy lips stuck together.\u00a0 Ew.\u00a0 Gross.\u00a0 The most important part of a kiss isn\u2019t the how, but the <i>who<\/i>&#8211; because of the emotions between the two people.<\/p>\n<p>Okay so:<\/p>\n<p><b>lips<\/b>&#8211; Lips can slide, glide over each other smoothly, or they can be chapped and rough and dry and get stuck on each other.\u00a0 They can match, top-to-top and bottom-to-bottom, or they can overlap, with one person\u2019s top or bottom lip captured between the other person\u2019s lips (yummy).\u00a0 If there is lipstick or chapstick there is lipstick or chapstick flavor, otherwise, lips don\u2019t have a taste (can you taste yours?).\u00a0 Lips also can smack- the sound of two of them coming together or pulling apart, because they\u2019re wet and warm and soft.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>tongue<\/b><i>&#8211; <\/i>Tongues are always wet, and always warm.\u00a0 They\u2019re very versatile.\u00a0 They can trace over lips, teeth, or another tongue.\u00a0 They can be smooth and graceful or teasing and flicking.\u00a0 When tongues are involved, there is drool.\u00a0 It\u2019s only sexy when you like the person you\u2019re kissing, or else it\u2019s kinda gross. \ud83d\ude1b<\/p>\n<p><b>teeth<\/b>&#8211; teeth can clack together awkwardly, or teeth can bite down sensually.\u00a0 A person biting their own lip is cute, a person biting another\u2019s lips is sexy.\u00a0 A person biting gently is sensual, a person biting roughly is sexual.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>eyes<\/b><i>&#8211;<\/i> Eyes can be wide open with surprise, half-lidded with desire, fully closed with pleasure.\u00a0 Eyes can gaze lovingly, lustfully, wistfully, hungrily, seductively- it all depends upon the emotions of your characters.\u00a0 Have them do whatever you like, but don\u2019t leave them out- give them at least a mention!<\/p>\n<p><b>faces<\/b>&#8211; Faces are what the lips are attached to.\u00a0 Noses bump, cheeks flush, ears turn red, foreheads either wrinkle or relax.\u00a0 Kisses can leave lips, quite easily, and become kisses on chins, cheeks, noses, foreheads, ears, necks, throats.\u00a0 Kisses on noses or foreheads are cute and adorable, kisses on cheeks are sweet, kisses on chins, ears, and throats are very sexual.\u00a0 And a kiss on the lips can be all of those! &lt;3<\/p>\n<p><b>hands<\/b><i>&#8211;<\/i> Hands are super-important.\u00a0 In order to describe a kiss, usually you want to also describe the hands.\u00a0 Where are they?\u00a0 Does one character have on on the back of the other\u2019s head or back, holding them close?\u00a0 Are they on someone\u2019s shoulders pulling them near, or pushing them away?\u00a0 Fingers brushing someone\u2019s cheek or palms grabbing someone\u2019s ass convey two very different kinds of situations, even if the kiss itself is exactly the same.<\/p>\n<p><b>noses<\/b>&#8211; Noses are annoying.\u00a0 They easily get in the way, especially for first kisses!\u00a0 People have to tilt their head to one side or the other, and if they don\u2019t, noses bump.\u00a0 I\u2019d only mention noses if a kiss is supposed to be awkward or uncertain or nervous.<\/p>\n<p><b>bodies<\/b><i>&#8211; <\/i>bodies are either close together, or far away.\u00a0 Someone can be surrounded comfortingly by someone\u2019s arms, or terrifyingly trapped by them.\u00a0 Bodies are warm or hot, they are calm or nervous, relaxed or tense.\u00a0 Body language says a lot.\u00a0 Is your character pulling away, or moving closer?<\/p>\n<p><b>heartbeat<\/b><i>&#8211;<\/i> Hearts can beat fast or slow, and that\u2019s about all they can do- but there are lots of reasons why they do!\u00a0 A heart can beat fast with fear or excitement or nervousness; a heart can pound with lust or race with terror or sing with joy.\u00a0 Hearts can glow, cower, or shatter.\u00a0 When you really want to drive the emotions of a character home, mention the heart.<\/p>\n<p><b>breath<\/b>&#8211; To me, the most consuming part of a kiss is the breath.\u00a0 The air that someone else has just breathed going deep into your lungs is very intimate.\u00a0 Lips and tongues don\u2019t have a taste, but breath does.\u00a0 Each person\u2019s breath tastes different, smells different, and surrounds a person differently than anyone else\u2019s breath.\u00a0 Breath can be warm and sweet, breath can be hot and sexy, breath can be hot and frightening.\u00a0 It is something that is very present and should not be left out.\u00a0 A lot of writers leave breath out<i>.<\/i>\u00a0 And it\u2019s so important; it\u2019s the most intimate part of a kiss.\u00a0 Someone else is breathing into your lungs, and it\u2019s either heaven or it\u2019s hell.<\/p>\n<p><b>voice<\/b>&#8211; Voice conveys much, even without words.\u00a0 A voice can groan, whimper, gasp, moan, catch, whine, scream, sigh.\u00a0 Voice can convey emotion powerfully, and while some kisses are silent, usually they\u2019re not.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><b>emotion<\/b>&#8211;\u00a0 Emotion is the most important- and the thing you try not to <i>say<\/i>.\u00a0 You want to <i>describe<\/i> it, through all of the things above, so that it\u2019s perfectly clear what your characters are feeling, without you ever using the \u201cfeelings words\u201d.\u00a0 If they\u2019re in love, their bodies will lean close, their eyes will smile, their voices will giggle softly.\u00a0 If they\u2019re nervous, their palms will sweat, their noses will bump, their voices will shudder.\u00a0 If they\u2019re afraid, their muscles will be tense, their faces will grimace, their lips will not open.\u00a0 Emotion is the color that you keep inside your mind as you write; it\u2019s the base line that drives the description behind everything else you say.<\/p>\n<p>Wow, that was a lot!\u00a0 Gosh I hope it wasn\u2019t too much!\u00a0 Keep in mind not <i>every kiss<\/i> has all these things- this is just a list of things to consider when writing a kiss, and based on how long of a kiss you want to make.\u00a0 Keep in mind that typing \u201cthey kissed for a long time\u201d\u2026that\u2019s six words, it takes half a second to read, so that\u2019s a short kiss!\u00a0 If you want a long kiss, you need long sentences that make the reader linger.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>So maybe to start off, pick three things on the list to describe in your first kiss.\u00a0 Don\u2019t try to do it all- that would be too much for even the most epic kiss.\u00a0 Just pick what\u2019s most important to this particular scene, to these particular characters, and describe those parts <i>along with<\/i> the lips, and you\u2019ve got yourself an awesome, emotional kiss. &lt;3<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>feowyn: caseywolfe07: snazzycookies: Rebloggable version, as requested by davrosbro. \ud83d\ude42 Oooh!\u00a0 Yes!\u00a0 I love kisses.\u00a0 Kisses are where it all starts ;).
