I think something that some folks miss about Jessica Jones<\/i> is that Kilgrave\u2019s casting is quite deliberate.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re all: \u201cOh no, Kilgrave\u2019s horrible, but David Tennant is cute – I feel conflicted!\u201d<\/p>\n

Well, that\u2019s the point.<\/p>\n

Kilgrave\u2019s power is basically white male privilege dialed up to eleven.<\/p>\n

What more perfect face to put on it than a dapper, upper-middle-class nerd?<\/p>\n

You don\u2019t always get obvious warning signs. It\u2019d be convenient if every entitled misogynist sported an ill-fitting fedora and a scraggly neckbeard – but sometimes, the guys that popular media tells us are the nice, safe ones are exactly the ones you need to watch out for.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

And let\u2019s not forget that the central plot of the show hinges on the fact that Jessica Jones KNOWS that even in a world with alien invasions and actual super heroes fighting crime, the cops and the legal system WOULD NOT believe her about Kilgrave, or that he was capable of doing what she says he did.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
