At the time, Boyega\u2019s talent agency, CAA, also represented \u201cIron Man\u201d star Robert Downey Jr., who is no stranger to this sort of fame. So he sent an email to Downey\u2019s agent saying, essentially, \u201cHi, I\u2019m John. I\u2019m going to be in \u2018Star Wars.\u2019 If he has time, can Robert Downey Jr. mentor me?\u201d<\/p>\n

He wasn\u2019t exactly sure that it would result in anything, but figured it was worth a shot. Later, Boyega remembers he was driving in London when he got a call from an unknown number.<\/p>\n

\u201cWho\u2019s this?\u201d Boyega demanded.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s Robert,\u201d the voice said.<\/p>\n

\u201cRobert who, man?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cUh, Robert, Downey Jr.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m like, oh crap! Iron Man!\u201d Boyega recalled. \u201cI had better park up.\u201d<\/p>\n

They talked for two hours that day. It was the start of a true friendship that\u2019s since resulted in more hours-long chats, hang-outs, and even a chicken and waffles date.<\/p>\n

\u201cGood lord we get deep,\u201d Boyega said of their conversations. \u201cFor the most part it\u2019s definitely private, but in general, his thing has always been inner peace and how to deal with this on a mental level. Taking care of your mental health is something that he talks to me about.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s really changed my life with his advice.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
