\u2026 well, no, that isn\u2019t strictly true- Sherlock can hear his voice catching on the words, all shaky and unsure and wrong wrong wrong<\/i>, so he pretends otherwise. And God, he must smell awful as he convulses and hides his face, he doesn\u2019t want Mycroft to see this, please not\u2013<\/p>\n

But a list. A list he can do. And the sound of the pen scratching on the notebook Mycroft silently passes to him is a blessed distraction.<\/p>\n

But then. What happens next is pure hell. Mycroft takes the list from him, and he makes a terrible choking sound that Sherlock never would have thought he would be capable of making. Perhaps he is suffocating. Perhaps he is dying.<\/p>\n

Sherlock raises his head to see that Mycroft is crying. Honest, wrecked, shoulders shaking, crying.\u00a0\u201cYou\u2019re going to kill yourself,\u201d Mycroft whispers.\u00a0\u201cOh God, oh my God-\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMycroft-\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cN-no. No, Sherlock. You need to listen. I\u2019m here. I\u2019ll always be here. And, I\u2019m not angry. I\u2019m-\u201d<\/p>\n

He breaks off and Sherlock closes his eyes. He can hear Mycroft swallowing back more tears.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just want you to tell me the truth,\u201d Mycroft says.\u00a0\u201cPlease, Sherlock. I can only help you if you give me that. Write a list, every time.\u201d<\/p>\n

And Sherlock does.<\/p>\n
