Because the fact that Mary didn\u2019t get to be a bride on screen has\u00a0been plaguing me for the last 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p>Sherlock has that moment at the end, before Moriarty raises the veil, where he\u2019s mirroring that moment in <i>His Last Vow<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>Mary is the only one of the women that we didn\u2019t get to see as the bride\u2013and we know Lady Carmichael didn\u2019t kill her own husband because she was literally in the room with Sherlock when John saw the bride, yes? Sherlock assumes later that it was Molly who climbed out the window\u2013but why couldn\u2019t that have been Mary?\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/cb4c5ba6c0897b9d6731bb339521ce70\/tumblr_inline_o0d30xTIxh1qdrhk1_540.png\" class=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>That particular bride even crops up scaring John in the editing when Sherlock\u2019s\u00a0\u201cthe women we have lied to, betrayed, <b>ignored<\/b>\u201d line is delivered. John and the bride are on screen for\u00a0\u201cignored.\u201d Who has John been ignoring?<\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/e76a6174d23221c7665e6c6e43002fa5\/tumblr_inline_o0d30xdoXS1qdrhk1_540.png\" class=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>The fact that there was a\u00a0\u201cMiss me?\u201d note on the corpse would support this theory, as well, if you\u2019re of the belief that Mary is the \u201cnew\u201d\u00a0Moriarty. None of the other corpses had notes\u2013why this one, if it wasn\u2019t someone trying to send a message to Sherlock Holmes? (Like the <i>Study in Pink<\/i>\u00a0suicides, there was only one note\u2013and it was the one that started Sherlock on the path to Moriarty.)<\/p>\n<p>So Sherlock is asking the Moriarty-bride, who has come specifically out to see him, why she engaged him in the case when she intended to commit the murder herself. He\u2019s so sure it\u2019s Lady C., but at the same time, he\u2019s confused\u2013he says it doesn\u2019t make sense.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>And the way he delivers this line is <i>very<\/i>\u00a0similar to his delivery of the Lady Smallwood line in HLV. His reaction is similar, as well\u2013he\u2019s shocked. He says explicitly\u00a0\u201cIt can\u2019t be you.\u201d He\u2019s thrown the same way he was when Mary turned around and revealed herself as the person training a gun on Magnussen.\u00a0Then that string of his mind palace starts to come undone and he\u00a0\u201cwakes up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But Sherlock\u2019s subconscious is starting to put it together\u2013it had to be Moriarty who committed the murder, but not Moriarty as Sherlock knows him.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Even when Sherlock starts to \u201cwake up,\u201d Moriarty\u2019s line\u00a0\u201cYou\u2019re dreaming\u201d is immediately said by Mary. Sherlock\u2019s brain is connecting Mary to Moriarty\u2013especially given the fact that we now know he was still in the mind palace when he heard Mary\/Moriarty say\u00a0\u201cYou\u2019re dreaming.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/4804f7347bc1c73df09581d8cb5f8313\/tumblr_inline_o0d30yypDP1qdrhk1_540.png\" class=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\"><img src=\"https:\/\/78.media.tumblr.com\/33135a42530be83e6e9dc62755e56c3b\/tumblr_inline_o0d30yeAYu1qdrhk1_540.png\" class=\"\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>None of it makes sense to his brain because Moriarty is the\u00a0\u201cvirus in the data.\u201d He\u2019s infiltrating in places where Sherlock\u2019s brain seems too afraid to actually see the truth, the same way Sherlock saw Moriarty in <i>Hound. <\/i>Almost all the other episodes had direct parallels in this one, but Hound didn\u2019t get one beyond the short mention at the beginning <i>(\u201dthe dog one\u201d) <\/i>and the\u00a0\u201conce you\u2019ve eliminated the impossible\u201d bit with the ghost<i>. \u00a0<\/i>But in Hound, Sherlock\u00a0saw Moriarty in place of the scientist fellow whose name I can\u2019t remember.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Here, he sees Moriarty in place of Mary.<\/p>\n<p>And then, just like in Hound, he blinks it away and sees the person he\u2019s meant to see. Sherlock\u00a0\u201cwakes up\u201d and sees Mary.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m going to agonize over this for the next year, aren\u2019t I?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>I think you should be really proud of this, actually. Nicely done.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Yes, great point. Totally agree.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Also (and I have no spot to back myself up, so I could technically be wrong): I\u2019m pretty sure everyone on the plane gets a mirrored line with their 1985 counterpart except Mary.<\/p>\n<p>Sherlock has one, John has \u201cmorphine or cocaine?\u201d, and Mycroft has \u201cDid you make a list?\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Mary\u2019s mirrored line is \u201cYou\u2019re dreaming.\u201d And it\u2019s a mirror of Moriarty.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>likes-timelords: xistentialangst: may-shepard: likes-timelords: Has anyone gone through this yet?
