The Abominable Bride is about how writing saved Sherlock Holmes, among other things.<\/p>\n

Sherlock does better when he sees himself through John\u2019s eyes. \u00a0He knows how he appears because he reads John\u2019s writing about him. \u00a0Some parts of himself aren\u2019t even real to him until he sees them mirrored back to him from John. \u00a0He doesn\u2019t even know how he talks until people tell him John has transcribed him correctly. \u00a0Hold yourself to a higher standard because of John\u2019s stories, Sherlock. \u00a0<\/p>\n

In other words: \u00a0Thank you, Moffat and Gatiss, for writing Sherlock Holmes and keeping him alive.<\/p>\n

Whichever of you wrote \u201cYou will hold yourself to a higher standard,\u201d thank you for what were, for me,\u00a0the deepest, most stirring notes in this episode.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
