Bush got <i>Reading Rainbow<\/i> canceled.<\/p>\n<p>Now that I have your attention, let\u2019s talk about how, no, seriously, George W. Bush got <i>Reading Rainbow<\/i> canceled. First, though, a little disclaimer. There are two things you need to know about me: I\u2019m not from the U.S., I was an awkward kid, and I\u2019ve always loved reading. I realize that\u2019s technically three things, but I reckon that the last two mean pretty much the same thing, so \u2026 in any case, I didn\u2019t grow up with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0085075\/\" target=\"_blank\"><i>Reading Rainbow<\/i><\/a>, but I instantly respect and admire anything that encourages kids to pick up a goddamn book every once in a while.<\/p>\n<p><i>Reading Rainbow<\/i> started all the way back in 1983 and (counting reruns) continued until 2009, when it was finally pulled from the air because it just wasn\u2019t resonating with modern kids who don\u2019t even know how \u201cturn on\u201d a print book, right? Not exactly.
