I\u2019m Jewish, and my dad- a goy- was watching it with me.<\/p>\n

one of the scenes that really got to me was<\/p>\n

because you can see the way Erik\u2019s face changes <\/i>because Charles just doesn\u2019t\u00a0understand<\/i>\u00a0what he was doing when he said that.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Think back to the bar scene in the beginning. What does the Nazi say to excuse his actions?<\/p>\n

So when Erik heard that? It just reminded him of what he knew and has been saying up until that very moment. Nothing\u2019s changed.<\/p>\n

I identified so much with Erik\u2019s plight and I felt a physical ache in my chest when he spoke the next lines<\/p>\n

Because growing up, all Jewish kids have heard or seen that in remembrance of the Shoah. Never Again.<\/p>\n

My father made it clear that he didn\u2019t understand;\u00a0\u201cSo he\u2019s gonna kill them all for following orders?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDad, following orders blindly, without even questioning them set us up in some really dark times.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhatever, the guy\u2019s just blood thirsty and ready to blame anyone.\u201d<\/p>\n

And the thing is, Erik isn\u2019t<\/i>\u00a0bloodthirsty, and never really has been. He\u2019s logical and see\u2019s the world based on his experiences of human actions. He\u2019s seen the worst of them and refuses to be lulled into the false sense of security that working with the government had given some of them. Or the never-ending optimism Charles seems to have for the human race.<\/p>\n

Because the fact is, Charles didn\u2019t go through what Erik did and that\u2019s one of the biggest causes of their thought differentiation.\u00a0<\/p>\n

It just showed me how much Erik\u2019s backstory impacted me more than it did goyim. Sure we didn\u2019t experience it like our grand and great-grandparents did. We weren\u2019t actually in the Shoah; But it\u2019s left such an intense impression and stain on our history that we are still triggered by it, threatened by it as\u00a0\u2018jokes\u2019 <\/i>and forced to see it used as a rhetorical device in arguments with no relation to it.<\/p>\n

We didn\u2019t experience it but it is part of us in ways others can\u2019t understand. And I think Erik-an actual survivor- really truly realized that when Charles spoke that line.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

I\u2019ve had similar conversations with many goyim. They mostly just can\u2019t grasp this dynamic\u2026like, Charles couldn\u2019t have said a WORSE thing if his goal was to calm Erik down.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

\u201cThey were following orders\u201d directly translates as \u201cthey commited genocide, but that\u2019s okay, someone told them to do it.\u201d Yeah, that\u2019s not good enough. You\u2019re responsible for your own actions and the harm you cause, and the people you murder.<\/p>\n

And there\u2019s no way that Never Again wasn\u2019t deliberate.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
