burgundy coat. \u00a0&quot;How does a bastard, orphan,\u201c etc. \u00a0Everyone else comes out in their off-white\u00a0\u201cstoryteller\u201d costumes, the ones that allow them to represent everyone and no one. \u00a0Daveed is both Jefferson and Lafayette; Jasmine is both Peggy and Maria. \u00a0Even Hamilton doesn\u2019t have that brown coat until Eliza puts it on him. \u00a0(Later she takes it from him and Burr gives him his blue soldier\u2019s coat, which <i>killed me<\/i>.)<\/p>\n<p>In other words, <i>every single character<\/i>\u00a0is able to take off their identity <i>except Burr<\/i>. \u00a0From the moment he first appears, the only character in a distinguishing color, he\u2019s branded, and by the end of the song, he tells us why: <i>I\u2019m the damn fool that shot him.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i>Now I\u2019m the villain in your history.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Hamilton can be forgotten (not necessarily a mercy, since that was clearly his greatest fear), but Burr doesn\u2019t have that luxury. \u00a0From the very first scene, he\u2019s stained with wine-red. \u00a0He\u2019s not permitted to let us forget what he\u2019s
